Les Boréades (The Descendants of Boreas) or Abaris is an opera in five acts by Jean-Philippe Rameau.
Rameau was one of the leading French composers in the generation that followed Lully. He was a dominant musical force in 18th-century France, especially in his compositions for keyboard and opera. Rameau was also a major musical theorist and dramatically changed French musical style and harmony.
“Les Boréades,” a lyric tragedy based on Greek legends, was composed by Rameau around 1763, towards the end of his life. The Entrée is a dreamy, introspective piece which opens Scene 4 in the tragedy’s fourth act.
